Kelsey English's 1999 Forester L

Member #12628 :: Car Show Entry

Car Description:
This is my second Forester shell. I had another 99 L manual before this one since about 2018, but I hit some black ice and totaled the car. From there I found a straight forester of the same year but it was an automatic with tan interior, which I was not a fan of. So, I began a complete engine, transmission, driveline and interior swap with all of my friends. We managed to get it done in about 3 weekends. So, I went from a Plastidipped Root Beer car, to a red one. After a few weeks I got to Plastidipping this new body I had. This time I used the Dip Armor as well and it turned out good. Since then, I have been working on the appearance and getting it how I wanted it to look. I was on track to get her painted this year but then discovered she had Rod Knock in 3 of the 4 cylinders. I was faced with replacing the engine instead of painting. So now she has an EJ252 installed in her with all new timing, headgaskets, complete reseal, and some tidying up all done by me in my garage (except for the machine work). There’s more to come for her as well; I’m also adding on a 2.5 RS front bumper conversion and hope to find some side skirts that will work well. The options are endless when you have creativity!
Well, I was working on her up until leaving for Portland on Friday morning, she was having a whole lot of issues with throttle and fuel delivery. I sent out an SOS to my friends and we got it fixed with about an hour to spare. The drive here was flawless, im so happy we made it. My attendance was on the fence because she couldn’t even get around the block. But we’re back and better than ever!! I didn’t get to do all the pretty things I wanted, due to these hiccups, but she’s here and that’s all that matters!
