Car Description:
This car started life as an Outback Sport with a 2.2L SOHC engine and 4-speed automatic. It was purchased in 2020 from a Subaru dealership in Marysville, WA for $600 with 248,000 miles in non-running condition. Since saving it from the crusher I've converted it to a period correct WRX STI replica as a fast and fun family hauler. Restoration completed in November of 2021 and the car now has 261,000 miles on the clock. In addition to the modifications below, the car has undergone a mechanical restoration to keep it on the road for 20+ years.
This is my first project car. I did the swap and restoration work myself, aside from paint, in my home garage. Modifications include an EJ205 WRX engine swap, conversion from automatic to manual transmission, Subaru 4/2-pot brakes, Cusco coil-overs, STI steering rack, exterior conversion, interior swap, and many other bits and bobs.
The engine is an EJ205 making 245whp at 5,800rpm built by Drive Auto Sports and aligned with the goal of replicating the period correct 2.0L STI experience as much as possible with USDM parts, starting with a new Subaru short block and heads. The car breathes through a Cobb intake and Perrin turbo inlet, feeding a VF48 turbo and STI intercooler. Exhaust flows through a Grimmspeed up-pipe, Cobb downpipe, Stromung midpipe, and STI muffler. Supporting mods include Brian Crower valve springs and retainers, Killer B oil pan and pick-up, STI injectors, Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump, and Koyorad radiator.
The driveline is from a MY99 Imperza WRX Type-RA-- close-ratio 5-speed transmission (TY754VB1BA) w/ 4.44 final drive and a limited slip differential in the rear. A quick-revving StreetLite flywheel and ACT heavy duty street clutch connect the close-ratio transmission to the engine.
Exterior has been converted to WRX STI version V spec, including a full color change to cashmere yellow and period correct decals. The car has version V front bumper and grill, side skirts, JDM smooth rear bumper with big top and waist spoilers, JDM roof rails and roof-mounted antenna. The interior has been completely refreshed, with all-new or refurbished touch points, including steering wheel, handbrake, carpet, JDM WRX wagon door cards, seats front and rear, and dark trim pieces.
